I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord

In the land of the living.

Do you? I felt so strongly about this verse last week that I had to share it again this week. Last week I shared a picture of my table set for a meal shared with my mother-in-law and father-in-law when they were visiting at this time last year. It was a sweet time for us to all be together and as it turns out the last time we will all be together because my father-in-law passed away last week.

I posted that particular picture with that particular verse because I wanted to show how I see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living.

Every time we share a meal with loved ones, every time we smile at a baby, every time we show patience when we have little of it, every time we hold out a hand to help some one in need, every time we hear a beautiful and moving piece of music…and we don’t even have to be directly involved…when we see lovers embrace, when we see people greeting one another at an airport or a restaurant…I once saw a mother and grown daughter get off the subway together and hug each other before going off in different directions.

Choirs of angels may sing, those who are very ill may be miraculously healed, Jesus himself may walk on water but, let’s face it, we will probably not see or hear those things in the land of the living.

The verse says, “I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord…” It doesn’t say I shall see…So, even if you can’t see it, even if your eyes or your heart are broken or heavy, even if you are walking through a darkened valley, all you have to do is believe that you will see it…all you need is faith that His bounty is here, in the land of the living…where we are.

So….A two-fold challenge you this week is to look for the bounty of the Lord as you go about your days. And to remember that you, that we, are a bounty of the Lord, so if you can’t find it..be it.
