a sojourner amongst mosses and lichens or Toadstools and other fungi

Let your focus shift to the scale of a dewdrop, the forest landscape now becomes the blurred wallpaper, only a backdrop to the distinctive moss microcosm.

Robin Wall Kimmerer

-a microcosm, in case you were wondering is defined as, “a community, place, or situation in miniture the characteristic qualities or features of something much larger.”

A sojourner is defined as, “temporary resident”

Oh happy day

The good

My brother and sister-in-law came over on Sunday evening to celebrate her birthday next week. We have some food constraints in the family I did some creative cooking and everything turned out delicious.

The random

We had a sunny, sixty degree day here on Saturday! I didn’t take any pictures because I was too busy enjoying it in real time…so here’s a picture of a sunny, yellow tulip on my kitchen table.

The fun

We went to see my step-son’s basketball game on Saturday. Even though they lost it was fun to see him play. There’s always going to be someone taller…lesson of the day.

Family Friday

I picked up the Rae Dunn pot at Home Goods last week and knew right away I wanted to plant a Holly in it for my sister, whose name is Holly. I have it on my kitchen table.

I finally found some time to finish decorating the conservatory in our apartment. I got the pictures that were sitting on the floor hung up and moved a few things here and there.

Joe and I woke early on Saturday and walked over to the Driftwood for breakfast. The place has been in business for over 75 years and still serves the best breakfast around.

Pink poinsettia! I went looking for a white or red at the nursery the other day and found a bright pink one! It’s so pretty.

I saved the best for last! Wednesday night I went up to babysit for my grandchildren while my daughter and son-in-law went Christmas shopping. The baby fell asleep early so Verne and I spent some time reading by the fireside. He is such a delight to be with.

Pleasant

Pleasant

I have been thinking of a word for 2020 and I think I may have settled on Pleasant.

One pleasant day in October, sunflowers succumbed to the weight of their ripening seeds and bowed their heads to the leaf strewn ground.

~ ~ ~

Stop for a moment and notice the stillness all around you.

We may be bustling here and there, rushing about to finish our chores,

But a single leaf sings it’s entire symphony as part of the whole tree,

red, orange, yellow and glowing in the setting sun.

And then it dances in the air currents, twirling softly and silently to the ground…

Laying there in stillness, it’s pleasant task complete.

Who are we to say that our tasks are more important or matter more?

As for me, I will stop in a pleasant grove of an Autumn afternoon and pause for the gift

of a single falling leaf, grateful for a tree

That is generations older than me, and bigger than me, and perhaps,

In some ways, even wiser than me.

A view of the harbour

The good

Joe and I walked around the corner to have lunch at the Barnacle. I had a cup of lobster bisque, he had a bowl of chowder and we split a seafood platter. We also had bloody Mary’s. The view of the harbour was outstanding as usual and the food was delicious!

The random

I happened to catch a butterfly on one of the sunflowers across the street as I was walking into the house the other day. There are two butterfly bushes in the neighborhood as well so they have plenty of choices as to where to eat.

The fun

We went to visit Bonnie, Dad and the children last weekend. Verne is deciding which kind of ice cream is available to me at his “ice cream stand.” He finally told me that strawberry was all the ice cream that he had.
